For my homework I played Kingdom Rush. I really like the art style of this game, it’s cartoony and looks really appealing, with bright colours and thick outlines. The characters all look cartoony and fun, with added appeal from the funny sound effects. The levels all have a really bright and appealing colour palette, and the paths that the enemies follow require pretty good strategic planning to beat, however most of the locations are kinda samey art wise, and all look very similar. I love strategy games so I found this game very addictive, and the added appeal of the art makes this game really fun to play.
I also played some of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. The art style in this game is very different to Kingdom Rush. Kingdom Rush is really bright, cartoony and lively, however the art style in The Binding of Isaac is darker and gruesome. Everything is dark and bloody, the monsters are undead Isaacs and poops, and Isaac is always crying, and therefore uses tears as his attack. The levels are all dark, ranging from a basement, to a womb, and a cathedral, all with varied art. All of the areas are identifiable and different. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a dark story about a child who’s mother tries to kill him by the word of God, which is very, very different to the lighthearted plot of Kingdom Rush, which is a bright and stylised story about protecting your base. The chosen art styles of the games are both very different, however they both fit each story well.
